She’s going underground To listen to the sound Of footsteps overhead People passing by I met her yesterday And all she had to say Was all she said before But said it one more time You're everything I want But it’s not enough To see me through the day She’s going underground To listen to the sound Of footsteps overhead People passing by Baby sings the blues Like no one else in town Baby sings the blues She’s going underground To listen to the sound Of footsteps overhead People passing by She’s going underground She’s going underground She’s going underground Copyright © 2017 Andy Fitzpatrick

When I saw the street engineers collecting the rubbish I said there was no way she was coming now She'd never been later than and hour before Sending me a message, sending me a message When I close my eyes I hear her laugh and cry I got stood by a girl I like Now I’m sleeping alone at night We agreed to meet again, if one last time Outside the gates of the park Where three o’clock turned into 6 o’clock And soon it was getting dark, soon it was getting dark When I close my eyes I hear her laugh and cry I got stood by a girl I like When I close my eyes I hear her laugh and cry I got stood by a girl I like I’m sleeping alone at night I’m sleeping alone at night Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

Only today I got a feeling To call you straight away But wherever I go There doesn’t seem to be a phone There doesn’t seem to be a phone Give me back my old life Give me back my old place Give me back my soft bed Where I dream of you every night A dusty address book I look through For no other reason that I was bored Was it by accident I ended up alone In somebody else’s home Give me back my old life Give me back my old place Give me back my soft bed Where I dream of you every night Every night I hope I don’t have to stay here much longer I'm running out of things to do And any day now, I’ll pull the curtain down I'm gonna pull that curtain down Give me back my old life Give me back my old place Give me back my soft bed Where I dream of you, dream of you Give me back my old life Give me back my old place Give me back my soft bed Where I dream of you every night I dream of you every night Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

Why else would I Kiss you this way If I wasn’t Convinced that you felt the same Don’t make a fool out of a fool It's not the treatment that I deserve If all you wanted was to involve me In a dance, I would have asked the band to stop Don’t make a fool out of a fool How much more silent everything is now Even the wind has given up Never let your heart Be stretched to breaking point Don’t make a fool out of a fool It's not the treatment that I deserve If all you wanted was to involve me In a dance, I would have asked the band to stop Don’t make a fool out of a fool Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

I see your face In the grey washed sky I hold out my hand To touch it one last time It ain’t meant for the morning It ain’t meant for the morning The city cars Call out your name As they make their way Through the early traffic crawl It ain’t meant for the morning And I hear your voice On every corner I turn And every corner It comes around again And I hear your voice On every corner I turn And every corner It comes around again It ain’t meant for the morning It ain’t meant for the morning Copyright © 2017 Andy Fitzpatrick

I’m just a wild thing, catch me if you can By the time you got me figured out I’ll be with another man Don't try to put me in a cage I’ll just fly away Someday you’ll realize what I mean When you hear me say A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do Even when she hurts you and she makes you feel blue Traveling this world of mean, I've met lots of guys like you You say your love is forever Then what do you do Never love a wild thing, you’ll get your fingers burnt I got my soul, I got my wings and I have learnt I know this is a man’s world And I know why I’m here I’ll give you everything you want for awhile Then I’ll say goodbye with a smile A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do Even when she hurts you and she makes you feel blue Traveling this world of mean, I've met lots of boys like you You say your love is forever Then what do you do A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do Copyright © 2017 Andy Fitzpatrick & Sean A. Lady seeks companion For long walks and silent conversations Please don’t send a photograph A few simple words About yourself will do Address replies To P.O. Box 119 Antoinette Plaza I will answer everyone As I know how easy it is to be hurt If a smile goes unnoticed Or lips get no Practice in The pastime of kissing Kissing And I have a friend Who suggested that give it a try But if I may say I’m not exactly looking for the same thing Lady seeks companion For long walks and silent conversations Please don’t send a photograph A few simple words About yourself will do Address replies To P.O. It’s probably nothing But she’s reading a book By D.H. Lawrence All about how hard it is To love, love, love And she threw it down When she saw me Troubled by it’s meaning It’s probably nothing Just leave her be She's been through a lot lately And it’s probably nothing they said again And I thanked them For making me feel Making me feel Now every night She comes home, hangs her coat And sits herself down With a smile and says, hi It’s probably nothing Just leave her be She's been through a lot lately And it’s probably nothing they said again And I thanked them For making me feel Making me feel Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

My days are not over Not in the sense That you understand I have met Spring And dined with Summer I slipped on the ice That prevails in Winter And all those Autumns I thought of you Through a barrage of comic mixed feelings I simply couldn’t get my head around I couldn’t get my head around Was I being silly To start dreaming then Of holding you closer So we could share the same breath I simply couldn’t get my head around I couldn’t get my head around Was I being silly To start dreaming then Of holding you closer Closer I have met Spring And dined with Summer I slipped on the ice That prevails in Winter I have met Spring Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

One Surprise 02:32
It’s not that long ago I was sitting here Bemoaning the fact The only romance I could attract Came in the shape of a bottle But ain’t funny How situations change When you least expect them You were the one surprise I wasn’t ready for The April sunshine I wasn't counting on To brighten up my life All those fairytales Read to me When I was young Make perfect sense now I wish I could have made More of an effort To smile when I was sad You were the one surprise I wasn’t ready for The April sunshine I wasn't counting on To brighten up my life Copyright © 2017 Fitzpatrick & Merriman

about

Antoinette Plaza was mostly recorded at Vibromonk Studios, Brooklyn over several dates in 2003 and 2004. For some reason or other, I never released the result of those sessions at the time and soon moved on to new projects and forgot about it. Now, having recently acquired an old DAT player, I was able to revisit the original recordings with fresh ears, and was a little surprised. Still some songs needed further arranging. I dived in and thirteen years later I’ve added strings to three tracks, organ to another three, and some minor overdubs to a couple of others, and completed it. Enjoy!
